Why I Project Life...

Some of you may have heard me talk about Project Life. What is Project Life? From the Becky Higgins website....."Project Life is a back-to-basics approach to memory-keeping. This simple format requires no skill - only your pictures and a pen. No one's life is perfect but everyone has a story and every family has a collection of memories. Putting pictures + stories together in Project Life makes us more aware of our blessings and encourages us to cultivate a good life."

I looked at Project Life for months. I checked the blog daily. I "liked" her Facebook page. I even pinned it to Pinterest. I took the plunge after Christmas and bought Clementine. I debated over her and Amber but at the last second bought Clementine. I am glad I did!

Yay!!

However I am still waiting to order the binder and pocket pages. I ordered a pack of "B" pages but have decided I want to use "A" for the main layouts. Those are not in stock and will not be back until February. I will use "B" pages for extra photos at the end of the album.

I plan to take the photo a day approach for the 2012 year. And I have done great so far keeping up with that. Even uploading and applying a dated overlay to them (more on this in another post). However, I have yet to journal a single thing. I don't want to write on the journal cards until I am able to lay everything out and put it in my binder. This. Is. Driving. Me. Crazy. I am so ready to jump into it full force. As I am sitting here writing this I am thinking I will go ahead and journal on other paper then just transfer it. It may be another month before I get all my supplies in and I am not sure I can wait that long!!

Now here comes the bottom of my heart, emotional reasoning behind all of this. Why? Why Project Life? Growing up I had very few photos of myself.  I missed not being able to sit down and look through albums and bring up all of the memories and emotions that photographs can bring up. I don't want this for my children. It doesn't do any good for them to sit on a computer and not be looked at. I want them in my hands to hold. To feel. To point to. To carry to the grandparents house to share. I want to be able to add mementos that tell even more of the story of the photograph. That is where Project Life comes in. Why a photo a day? Life happens. It happens everyday. Life isn't just about the trips we take or the parties we go to. Those play an important part but so does dirty dishes, what we eat for breakfast, bill paying and just the day to day life. That is where the name of this blog came from. It is also the theme for my Project Life this year. Everyday moments into lifelong memories. I want my children to remember more than just the highlights of their childhood. I want them to remember what daily life was like. What our routine was and how we celebrated life each day.

I am excited to have found this way of scrap booking that will be easy enough to allow me to document the little things in life that add up to make our world we live in. Just in the past 24 days I have grown to appreciate some of the small things that I typically overlook because I have made myself stop to think about what photo I would like to take to document that day.  I am learning that it is ALL of those small things that add up to make the big events what they are.

  6. I used to scrapbook all the time.. paper scrap not digital. But life just happened, and I no longer do it. Enjoy!!! :) As a photographer, I am extremely familiar with a "photograph a day", although I've never managed a whole year of it. Can't wait to see all you do!
